San Jose’s downtown tradition of holiday displays and decorated trees officially opened Friday, November 23, with the annual tree lighting and a new musical, animated “Twelve Days of Christmas” display at the north end of Plaza de Cesar Chavez. It replaces the aging “Nutcracker Suite” exhibit.

Daniel Capetillo, a 17-year-old San Jose resident, who was fatally shot in a suspected gang-related attack, was the 43rd homicide in 2012, tying a 20-year record set in 1997.
According to police reports, Capetillo was shot late on Friday in the 900 block of Pacific Avenue, near the intersection of West San Carlos Street and Lincoln Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

News BriefsCounty Supervisors to Hear From Public on 2014 Budget
Before the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors votes on the $4.6 billion 2014 recommended budget, residents and other stakeholders will have a chance to hear presentations and voice their opinions at a series of hearings beginning on Monday, June 17, 2013. The board will vote on the budget on June 21.
All hearings will be in the Board Chambers, 70 West Hedding Street, San Jose, or you can watch them streamlined through the Internet.
Here is the schedule:
- Monday, June 17 1:30 p.m. – Overview and Health and Hospital
- Tuesday, June 18 at 1:30 p.m. – Finance and Government Operations
- Tuesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. – Children, Seniors, and Family
- Wednesday, June 19 at 1:30 p.m. – Public Safety and Justice and Housing, Land Use, Environment and Transportation
